RESPITE CARE VOUCHER PROGRAM
Helping Hands Respite Voucher Program is funded by the Division for Aging Services and administered by Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, Inc.; a non-profit organization dedicated to the independence of seniors. The program is to provide financial assistance for respite care services throughout
Southern Nevada . (
Clark , Nye,
Lincoln and
Esmeralda
Counties ).
WHAT IS RESPITE ?
“Respite” is for the caregiver, “Care” is for the recipient.
Respite is a form of temporary relief for the caregiver. If you do not take time off while caring for a person, you can “burn out” and both your physical and mental well being is compromised. The use of respite services is a way to reduce your stress so you can be a more effective caregiver. In addition, receiving respite services can delay early institutionalization of your afflicted loved one.
ELIGIBILITY FOR THE RESPITE CARE PROGRAM
- The recipient must be age 60 or over, be a
Nevada resident and have a demonstrated need for the program. Applications of qualified candidates may be subject to prioritization on the basis of need, including individual circumstances and other resources available. The recipient must have a signed statement from either the primary physician or referring agency or registered social worker, certifying the need for the program. (Certificate of Eligibility form enclosed)
- The caregiver must reside within the same household as the recipient.
- This is a “Respite Care Program” for the caregiver which is intended to provide time-off from care giving responsibilities. The respite may be used for vacation, days off for personal use, etc.
HOW THE VOUCHER PROGRAM WORKS
The “Application For Respite,” “Certificate of Eligibility” and “Release of Liability” forms must be completed in full and returned to Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. The forms are made to be straight forward and simple to fill out. It is important to clearly print all information, so that the application will not be delayed or be put on a waiting list, while information is gathered. The caregiver may call our office for any questions regarding the filling out of these forms and we will be more than happy to walk the caregiver through the application process.
You will be notified in writing of your acceptance or waiting list status within five weeks.
After approval and criteria are met, the caregiver will choose an agency or provider and notify Helping Hands, so that a voucher can be prepared by Helping Hands. Initial usage of the voucher is to occur within 45 days from date of the approval letter, or the grant can be voided and funds allocated to the next qualified caregiver on the waiting list. After the caregiver signs the voucher, it is to be given directly to the respite agency/provider. This voucher signifies that Helping Hands of Vegas Valley, Inc. will pay for respite services listed on the voucher. Remember: Helping Hands will not exceed the authorized amount. The caregiver is responsible for all charges above this amount.
You, the Caregiver, are responsible for screening and selecting your own respite care provider. A list has been established by Helping Hands of Vegas Valley. This list is for informational purposes only and not a recommendation due to the liabilities that could be involved.
Helping Hands of Vegas Valley will only pay the respite provider directly, not to exceed the authorized amount during the dates specified on the voucher. You may opt to use more than one agency/provider as long as the total amount does not exceed the total grant awarded.
